Epic

Epic pretty much sums up the last few weeks. Te Matatini was followed by Womad, another fantastic weekend of friends, food and brilliant music. When I got home I realised that, between those two events, my love of a good T-shirt might have also become a bit epic.

In my defence a good number of those on the right are to be gifted. Holding on to the fact that I’m supporting local businesses and artists.

Changes

After a month or more of hot sunny weather it’s feeling a bit autumnal. On Wednesday the weather app wasn’t helping - 13 feels like 3.

Finals!

I’ve spent the week at Te Matatini in New Plymouth. It’s the biannual Kapa Haka festival/competition and this year it’s the biggest ever, 55 teams competing for 12 places in the finals. It’s been epic and today, the last day, is shaping up to be the same. We got here super early by our standards and joined the queue.

The weather’s been amazing too.

Calm

It’s been a week of appointments and lots of just the usual but it’s a calm space before next week which will be full on, in a good way. I’m gearing up for a trip to Taranaki for Te Matatini, the biannual kapa haka competition/festival and can’t wait. It’s going to be massive!

Fair Haul

The Petone Fair was on yesterday and while I did my best to support local traders and makers it was a smaller haul this year. Still super happy and it was a glorious day.

Summer?

Thursday was Waitangi Day and Wellington put on one of its famous Good Days.

We’ve actually had a string of good days so there’s a quiet feeling of optimism that summer might have arrived.

It Begins!

First fry bread of the festival season at Te Rā o te Raukura. All the food groups covered; carbs, sugar (golden syrup) and a nod to nutrition in the form of calcium aka a proper wodge of butter.

This is a warm up for the Petone Fair, Te Matatini and Womad, all nicely spaced out between now and mid March.
